HANDWASHING PROGRAMME, SHRAWAN 2075 BS

Introduction

Hand washing is an important part of personal hygiene. Proper handwashing prevents a person from getting sick of various diseases and stops the spread of diseases as well. If hand is not washed properly, pathogenic organisms and contaminants can spread from hand into body (e.g. mouth, eyes, nose), into foods and drinks and onto inanimate objects such as tabletops, mobile phone, keyboard, hand rail, toys etc. which can easily lead to further diseases. Handwashing Programme was conducted by Department of Community Medicine, NAIHS-COM and 24 students of MBBS 1st years on grounds of Bijeshwori Bal Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya on Shrawan 16, 2075 B.S. and Shrawan 25, 2075 B.S.

Objective

The main objective of Hand Washing Programme was to spread the awareness of importance of Handwashing and to teach and reinforce proper Handwashing techniques in primary school children (Class 1 to Class 5) Bijeshwori Bal Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya by the MBBS students of 1st year.

Activities

The programme composed of a short lecture on Handwashing, Role-playing activities and Practical demonstrations of proper Handwashing techniques with audience participation. The programme activities were conducted between 1:30pm to 3:00pm in Auditorium Hall, Bijeshwori Bal Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya. The participants of the programme included students of Bijesjwori School between Class 1 to Class 5, teachers and staffs of Bijeshwori School, faculties of Community Medicine Department, NAIHS-COM and 24 MBBS students of 7th batch 1st year.

Outcome

The program was successfully conducted on the stated date with the help of faculties of Community Medicine Department, NAIHS-COM and staffs and coordinators from Bijeshwori Bal Mandir Sainik Mahavidyalaya. It was successful in meeting its objectives of teaching the participants of importance of Handwashing and steps in performing proper Handwashing with soap.
